South County Filmmakers has produced five short films.

Second Chance Cafe In 2019 we produced a 15-minute film touching on current social issues. The film premiered in November 2019 and highlighted the ravages of war, the conflicts that are created, and how things could be different if we just gave everyone a second chance. At our premiere we included a presentation by three guest speakers who presented information expanding on issues posed in the movie in an open discussion with the audience.
Through the Red Door A political satire. It’s a fanciful look at the new politics of 2017. The earth was shifting – up was down and down was up! For the first time we worked with professional actors as well as URI theater students and many extras. We also hired a professional film crew. The experience gained from working with these artists was priceless. Rajah Samaroo from Pawtucket was our director of photography and he generously taught us more than we could imagine. Our film not only has a message, but it is a pleasure to watch thanks to the wonderful cinematography. Our entries into film festivals again resulted in official selection for the 401 Film Festival, and also for the Mystic International Film Festival in Mystic Ct.
Expiration Date This film is a drama of over twenty minutes. The movie asks the question, what would you do if you knew the date you were going to die? The group spent six months working with a complex concept to develop a storyline, characters, and a polished script. The number of locations increased, we used an expanded crew to film, and recruited actors outside our group. A few roles were still cast with group members. Then we took a bold step and entered three film festivals. We were thrilled when notified that our movie was an official selection of Rhode Island’s 401 Film Fest in 2016!
Message Interrupted The second movie produced within the eight weeks of an OLLI class. The theme identifies the challenges and missteps senior citizens experience in using technology. The 8-minute movie was again produced using class members for all of the cast and crew positions. During the filming of this movie it was suggested a short movie club be formed.
Tea Without Sympathy Our first! The class discussed various storylines and chose one for the movie. Next step was to put the words on paper; luckily we had an accomplished dramatist in the class, David Christner, who arrived at our next session with a fully completed script. A few changes here and there and we were ready to shoot. We brought out the equipment, learned our cast and crew roles and started filming. It's the story of a greedy, squabbling family, seeking to insure they inherit when Mother passes on. Mother, however, is sharper than the lot and has her own little surprise. Great fun and certainly an excellent first effort by the South County filmmakers.
